Global Beatles Day (June 25th)! Catching A Wave 06-24-24

 


We take a magical mystery tour this week on Catching A Wave and salute The Beatles this hour in honor of Global Beatles Day on June 25th. It's celebrated on this day because of the first ever global broadcast that was produced by the BBC. This special on the group beamed The Beatles performing "All You Need Is Love" on June 25th, 1967 to over 400 million people world wide. We hope to show the band's impact on a variety of genres and decades through the years. This hour, we hear a track from The Beatles from an album celebrating it's 60th anniversary in our Good Time segment. Beth Riley has a fab cover by The Beach Boys in her Surf's Up-Beth's Beach Boys Break. Our pals Dion and Joel Paterson go Head 2 Head later with their versions of a Beatles classic. We'll drop a coin in the Jammin' James Jukebox to hear an instrumental cover by The Ventures. Plus, there's covers by Cheap Trick, Chris Casello, George Martin, The Grip Weeds, Papa Doo Run Run, The Smithereens, Los Straitjackets, The Weeklings, Duane Eddy, The Midnight Callers, The Surf Dawgs, The Astronauts, Mick Beaulieu and a new solo track from Ringo Starr!

We hear a tune from an album by The Ventures that's celebrating it's 60th anniversary in our Good Time segment. Beth Riley has a deep track from The Beach Boys in her Surf's Up: Beth's Beach Boys Break. Catching A Wave 03-18-24

 


The first day of Spring is just around the corner (March 19th) so if the warmer temps don't put you in a good mood yet, this hour of tunes on Catching A Wave definitely will! We hear a tune from Danny Amis & Twin Tones from an album celebrating it's 10th anniversary in our Good Time segment. Beth Riley has a deep track from America's band The Beach Boys in her Surf's Up: Beth's Beach Boys Break. We board the Catching A Wave Time Machine for the week of March 5th, 1965 to hear some songs on the chart for WLS Chicago that week (including their #1 song). We pay tribute to our friend J.M. Van Eaton who passed away on Feb. 9th, 2024. He was the drummer on so much great music for Sun Records (Jerry Lee Lewis, Billy Lee Riley, Charlie Rich, Bill Justis and so many more)! There's a rare track from an album he did with Billy Lee Riley in the early 90's. Plus, there's rockers from Pearl Jam, His Lordship, The Malibooz (being inducted in the California Music Hall Of Fame on April 14th as well as Walter Egan as a solo artist), The Meteoroids, Fever Drive, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion, El Castillo, The MIA, My Dusty Raygun, The Seismics and Little Kahuna!
